Vignetta
Font Design
Vignetta, derived from the French word 'vignette,' originally referred to a small decorative design or illustration used at the beginning or end of a chapter in a book. It comes from the Old French word “vigne,” meaning “vine,” as early vignettes often featured vine-like scrolls.
Inspired by the friendly and approachable slab serif qualities of Courier and American Typewriter, Vignetta embodies both precision and warmth. This typeface suggests a decorative, narrative quality, evoking the idea of small, detailed elements that enhance the overall storytelling experience, much like how a well-designed typeface can elevate the readability and emotion of a screenplay.
